I will revive September 22: The Baggins Birthday Countdown in the summer of 2012 as we head towards Bilbo's birthday again. Peter Jackson's film will be hitting the theatres and I'll be ready with my parody! And I'll shower all of you with gifts!
Yes, it would be better to give SOTR and The Wobbit their own blog each, but I'm leveraging the enormous brand equity of The Wobbit to create sychronicity with my future work. So please, keep coming back! And whether you're a reader from the USA, the UK, Canada, Germany, Brazil, Indonesia or Slovakia, please leave a post and say hello!

Author, The Wobbit A Parody
Hi Paul, part 2 is great ! The Buckiewine name will knock 'em dead here in Scotland where a particularly potent wine, fermented by monks no less, called Buckfast has a fearsome reputation.
ReplyDeleteHam Sammich, classic name play. Always though Maggot deserved some kind of award myself though, for being out standing in his own field. Are you taking pre orders for SOTR ? And who owns the film rights ?
Thanks, John! I'm glad you liked the Buckfast reference. I learned about Buckie from a Scottish friend on http://www.hobbitmovieforum.com/ (a forum you might REALLY enjoy).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion of Scam Gamgee. It got me thinking towards the Ham Sammich, which I like, too. The perfect name, Spam Gamgee, was already used in Bored Of The Rings back in 1973. You've read it, yes? If not, you should.
No one has shown interest in picking up the film rights to SOTR, but if YOU would like to own them, now is the right time to buy! Make me an offer!
Hi Paul, Fraudo and Scam would have been viable finacial industry names but also pretty 'cheap shots'. What I liked in the wobbit was that the naming and nature of the characters was in keeping with the source, with a subtle twist, not nasty in any way.
ReplyDeleteRead BOTR and Sellamillion (and I seem to remember The Soddit) when they came out, might revisit them now as it's been a while. There was a Bored of the Rings game along with The Boggit on the Spectrum (marketed as the Timex something or other in the US) which I played.
And of course the classic Melbourne House Hobbit with Thorin constantly sitting down and singing of Gold.
I'll check the piggy bank for film rights funds. Although the Tolkien lawyers might not like that and they can be pretty strict. Like disney lawyers but with facial hair.
